How does direct primary care work?

It’s simple – you sign up, meet your doctor, and enjoy fantastic care!

Do you charge per visit?

No, there are no visit fees. All face to face visits and phone calls are included in your monthly membership plan.

Can my family join my plan?

Yes, we encourage the whole family to join whenever possible.

Does Voyage Direct Primary Care accept insurance?

We have found that by not taking insurance, we can provide better care with more transparent pricing for you.  We don’t have to charge copays or deductibles.  We don’t have to wrestle with them to get things done.  We put you back in the captain seat of your care!   

We can utilize your insurance for specialty care, labs, or imaging if we need to.   Often, pricing with Voyage DPC are better than using your insurance. 

What will be my copayment for office visits?

Nothing. Your monthly membership covers the cost of office visits as often as they are needed, as well as technology visits like email, patient portal messaging, and telemedicine visits. We only charge an additional fee (due at the time of service) if we provide you with medication or discounted labs, or if we perform a procedure requiring out-of-the-ordinary supplies (for example, there is no physician charge to do a skin biopsy but there might be a charge for the supplies used to perform the biopsy). We will always tell you ahead of time if there are any additional charges for which you will be responsible. It’s part of our commitment to transparency in medicine and validation of your right to make informed choices about your health care.

If I have Medicare, can I still join Voyage Direct Primary Care?

Not at this time.   If you have medicare and are interested in Voyage DPC we will add you to a wait list.  We should be able to complete the government forms to be able to allow people with medicare to experience the exceptional care we can offer them soon!  Medicare and supplemental insurance will still cover medical costs that you incur outside of Voyage Direct Primary Care. For example, prescriptions that you fill at an outside pharmacy, or labs run at an outside lab, or hospital charges, physical therapy and imaging are covered, just to name a few. You do not lose your Medicare coverage for other medical needs just because you are a patient in a Direct Primary Care clinic

Is my membership fee tax deductible?
Not at this time, unfortunately. Your retainer is not yet defined as a “medical expense” in most states and, as such, is not deductible. The American Academy of Private Physicians, however, is lobbying hard to win rightful deductibility for these expenses. In the meantime, consult with your tax consultant to clarify tax consequences in your particular circumstances.
Can I contact my physician after hours? How?
By all means, yes! Because illness and injury do not respect regular office hours, you may call your physician any day, at any hour. We invite you to arrange for home visits, schedules permitting. If you prefer, you may also use our secure patient portal to access your medical record and then e-mail your physician.
Are my medical records ever shared with insurance carriers or pharmaceutical companies?
We maintain scrupulous standards of privacy. We are never obligated to provide any third party with a copy of your records, unless you specifically ask that we do so.
As a patient of Voyage Direct Primary Care, will I still need health insurance?
Yes. We aim to provide the majority of the care you will need, but medical conditions and illnesses can arise that require specialty care, hospitalization or surgery. Direct Primary Care is not intended to take the place of health insurance.
I plan to keep my current insurance plan. Can I use it?
Not for our services at Voyage Direct Primary Care. But you can use it anywhere else you might receive care or medical services. We do offer greatly discounted lab tests (sometimes 90% less than what you might be charged under insurance) as well as inexpensive, in-house, generic medication dispensing but these are not a requirement for membership. We always want you to get the most for your health care dollars. If we can provide a lab test or medication more affordably than what you could obtain elsewhere with insurance, we’re glad to provide it.
What if I need to see a specialist?

If you require a consult for specialty medical care, Voyage Direct Primary Care will work closely with that specialist. Because we are not affiliated with any other healthcare system, we can decide together who will best serve your needs.
